District Seamless Summer Program

Children are America’s greatest treasure and ensuring children have the proper nutrition to learn, grow up healthy, and reach their full potential is one of our most important duties as educators, leaders and community members. Childhood food insecurity and obesity remains at unacceptable levels across the country and children are impacted during the summer months. Your leadership can help to ensure that children of DCSD do not go hungry in your community this summer.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) operates summer meal programs to address this problem and we are requesting your support to make access to summer meals a priority.
The USDA Seamless Summer Programs are a continuation of the National School Breakfast/Lunch Program (NSBP/NSLP). These programs operate as a partnership between the Federal government, State agencies and local organizations to serve “free nutritious meals” to kids age 18 years and younger in local organizations, including schools, non-profits, parks and recreation departments, libraries and faith-based groups during the summer months when school is not in session.
Last summer, the DeKalb County School Nutrition Department served approximately 394,524 meals to our students. You can help increase that number by:
  • Informing Parents, School Staff and Students of the Seamless Summer Sites that will be providing nutritious food in a safe environment. You can help reach out through your school “Calling Post” and connect these families with summer meals before the school year ends and continue to make a difference in the lives of your students during the summer months when school is not in session.
  • Seamless Summer Feeding Program. The DeKalb County School Nutrition Department will offer the Seamless Summer Feeding Program to all children in DeKalb County 18 years of age and younger. This program will provide a nutritious meal at no cost to all children and students not participating in DeKalb County School District Summer School. Last summer we served 6,941 visiting children from the community.
The DeKalb County School District has more than 80 Summer School sites that will participate in the Seamless Summer program. Please visit the websitewww.dekalbschoolga.org to locate a site nearest you.
