Children are America’s greatest treasure and ensuring children have the proper nutrition to learn, grow up healthy, and reach their full potential is one of our most important duties as educators, leaders and community members. Childhood food insecurity and obesity remains at unacceptable levels across the country and children are impacted during the summer months. Your leadership can help to ensure that children of DCSD do not go hungry in your community this summer.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) operates summer meal programs to address this problem and we are requesting your support to make access to summer meals a priority.
The USDA Seamless Summer Programs are a continuation of the National School Breakfast/Lunch Program (NSBP/NSLP). These programs operate as a partnership between the Federal government, State agencies and local organizations to serve “free nutritious meals” to kids age 18 years and younger in local organizations, including schools, non-profits, parks and recreation departments, libraries and faith-based groups during the summer months when school is not in session.

Briarlake's kindergarten round-up has been rescheduled. The new date is Wednesday, April 26th at 9AM. This program is for the parents and guardians of upcoming Briarlake Kindergarten students. Our goal is to give you "a peek" into the life of a kindergartner, share with you all of the great things going on at Briarlake, and to answer any questions you might have.

The morning will include a chance to meet and hear from the principal, the kindergarten teachers, and the Counseling and Gifted Departments. Parent leaders from Briarlake's PTA, Foundation, and School Council will also be on hand. The program includes time for questions and answers. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided by the Briarlake PTA. We hope to see you there!

To Parents, Staff, Students, Community Partners and Potential Families and friends of Briarlake,

It is my pleasure to announce that we are officially AdvancED STEM Certified! We have worked extremely hard for this level of affirmation indicating that are on to something phenomenal for our students at Briarlake. I would like to once again congratulate and sincerely thank faculty, staff, students, Briarlake parents and community partners for their hard work, perseverance, initiative and support throughout the certification and ongoing STEM implementation process. “WE” did it! WE are AdvancED STEM Certified because of them!

I am truly humbled by the way we came together as ONE school family, inclusive of our kids and fantastic parent community, to achieve something that validates the STEM experiences that our kids are benefiting from, daily. It has been an honor to lead, follow and partner with each of you regarding this STEM process.

Briarlake, your commitment to our students, our school, and community are to be commended.

We strive to work in full collaboration to fully embody the vision and belief that when we work to ignite curiosity, facilitate critical thinking and creativity grounded in collaborative learning, nothing is impossible and growth is endless! This is the heart of STEM, and I believe this is the Heart of Briarlake.

Briarlake Elementary houses a phenomenal team to work with and for. You are to be praised for all that you do on a daily basis, as we continue to march towards even greater excellence here at Briarlake. WE are Briarlake.

One School. One Community. One Success.

Move forward. Head northward...

Kindergarten's overarching STEM unit is how to get fresh fruits and vegetables to food deserts or to people who essentially do not have easy access to it.  We were able to connect with an organization called "Smart Lunch, Smart Kids" at Oak Grove Methodist Church that packs lunches every single Wednesday during the school year and deliveres them to Montclair Elementary School.
